Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Kinlight LLC ("Kinlight," "we," "us") operates the Kinlight application, an AI chat companion for families. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's protected.

2. Information we collect

When a parent creates a Kinlight account, we collect the parent's email address, which is used solely to send secure login links and is never shared with any third party for marketing purposes.

For each family member profile a parent creates, we collect a first name (or nickname) and an age band (younger child, teen, or adult). No other identifying information about a child is collected at profile creation.

Conversations between a family member and Kinlight are processed to generate a response and, where relevant to safety, logged. Specifically:

• Messages that trigger a safety concern (such as language suggesting self-harm risk, a possible disclosure of abuse, or other sensitive content) are encrypted and made visible to the parent through the family's private dashboard.
• Conversations for adult-tier profiles are never logged for parental review, regardless of content.
• A rolling record of each child's most recent conversation is kept for a limited time so they can resume where they left off, and is automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
• Technical logs used to maintain and improve the safety system are retained for a limited period (currently nine months) and then automatically deleted.

3. How we protect information

Sensitive conversation content is encrypted at rest. Access to a family's data is restricted to that family's own authenticated parent account — no family can see another family's information, and Kinlight staff do not review individual family data except as necessary to maintain the safety and security of the service.

4. How we use information

We use the information described above to operate the service, keep children safe while using it, allow parents to review flagged content, and maintain the technical reliability and security of the platform. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use children's conversation content for advertising.

5. Third-party services

Kinlight uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate conversational responses, and Resend to deliver login emails. These providers process data solely to perform these functions on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own independent purposes.

6. Children's privacy

Kinlight is designed to be used by children under a parent's direct setup and supervision. A Kinlight account can only be created by a parent or guardian, who creates and manages each child's profile themselves. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child without a parent first creating the family account.

7. Your rights and choices

A parent can review, edit, or delete their family's profiles and flagged conversation history at any time through the family dashboard. To request deletion of your family's account and all associated data, contact us at privacy@kinlight.ai.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kinlight evolves. Material changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page.
